  • If you like the Monkey 47 Black Forest Dry Gin, you won’t be disappointed by the Sloe Gin from the “Black Forest” distillery.

Meet Monkey 47 Sloe Gin

Monkey 47 Sloe Gin comes from the Black Forest, more precisely from Loßburg-Betzweiler. Strictly speaking, Sloe Gin is not gin at all, but a liqueur. A sloe liqueur that has a little less alcohol than the classic, which is often made with vodka or rum. The base of Monkey 47 Sloe, however, is gin. And not just any gin, but the well-known Black Forest Dry Gin, which also comes from Monkey 47 .

The sloes, all hand-picked, are macerated in the gin. This gives the sloe gin its color and the typical sloe flavor. However, it is not too sweet and does not overpower the fine aromas of the gin. The producers from the Black Forest have managed to strike a good balance here. After the mixture has matured for three months in earthenware barrels, it is sold in the typical Monkey 47 bottle.

Monkey 47 Sloe. At a glance.

The Sloe Gin is classy and attractive. This is also due to the packaging. There are several to choose from: a classy wooden box, for example, and also a simpler cardboard box. But all of them contain the bulbous apothecary bottle with a half-liter capacity. The Sloe Gin looks reddish and cloudy. This is because it was not filtered for taste reasons. The label is jagged and is a bit reminiscent of a postage stamp. It features the obligatory monkey that gave the Monkey 47 its name. The overall appearance of the bottle is retro. Also because the container is closed with a cork.
Sloe aroma, delicate sweetness and the bouquet of the gin: that's how it should be, and that's exactly how it is with Monkey 47 Sloe Gin. As soon as you open the bottle, you'll be greeted by the typical aroma of Monkey 47 Gin. This is accompanied by a subtle sloe aroma that makes you want more.
The first sip is a fruity but not too sweet impression. In the mouth, in addition to the sloes, the taste of lavender spreads. A finely balanced drink that would make an excellent aperitif.

Our conclusion

  • If you like the Monkey 47 Black Forest Dry Gin, you won’t be disappointed by the Sloe Gin from the “Black Forest” distillery.
  • The producers have succeeded in producing a decent sloe liqueur that lives up to the usual quality from the Black Forest.
  • It is not for nothing that they are proud to use fresh, hand-picked sloes in their production and not a concentrate.
  • If you want to try a suitable tonic water, you should not use sweet tonics. These are mercilessly lost in the already sweet Monkey 47 Sloe Gin. A Thomas Henry or Fever Tree, on the other hand, are more recommendable.
  • The classic cocktail when it comes to sloes is of course the Sloe Gin Fizz.
