The Blackforest BOAR Distillery sees itself as being entirely in the Black Forest tradition and has also placed its trust in its homeland when it comes to the botanicals. The use of Black Forest truffles is particularly interesting, as it really gives BOAR Gin an exciting unique selling point. The gin's namesake is also a representative of the homeland. With the BOAR Gin, the three minds behind the drink - Markus Keßler, Hannes Schmidt and Torsten Boschert - have achieved something special. While German distilleries today produce many regionally influenced gins, the BOAR Gin with the Black Forest Burgundy truffle can achieve something special: bringing a very noble and almost forgotten ingredient back to our minds. The cylindrical shape looks tidy and clean, which is also matched by the artificial cork with the black plastic cap. With the coat of arms-shaped label, the BOAR Blackforest Premium Dry Gin shows its higher standards, because here the brand lettering in elegant gold is visible. Below it is the boar's head in a tailcoat and a portrait of the Black Forest. On the back, two lovingly written texts also reveal something about the production of the gin. A special treat: the handwritten batch number as well as the bottling date and the distiller's signature. The small recipe booklet on the neck of the bottle rounds off the overall picture impressively. An overall very high-quality impression that makes you want to try the premium gin.
When nosing, the BOAR Gin gives a first taste of its special variety of aromas. Juniper plays an important role here. However, it is accompanied by finely nuanced citrus notes, earthy forest aromas and a hint of lavender. With a lot of imagination, rose petals and cloves are also added, but they play in the background. If the truffle already has an effect here, then at most it ensures that the aromas result in a full composition instead of taking place alongside. After the first sip during the tasting, the gin connoisseur immediately notices something special: This drop also keeps its promise in taste. After a short time, a few sweet notes are surprisingly added, which are perfectly rounded off by nutty aromas and a hint of lemon. The nuttiness is probably due to the truffle and, when tasting, actually creates a composition that is unparalleled in this nuance. Overall, the BOAR Gin is a very complex drop that only has minimal weaknesses in the finish, as the pleasant taste aspects disappear too quickly.
