The complex botanicals characterize the gin and therefore have many different flavors. For this reason, it can sometimes be very difficult to distinguish and name the different flavors. It is therefore a good idea to find out about the different flavors in advance in order to be optimally prepared for the next gin tasting!

1. Fruity-Fresh

Fruity and mild gins are very popular. They often taste refreshingly of different fruits such as apple, peach, apricot and grapes.

2. Sweet

To achieve a classic, sweet taste, botanicals such as licorice, cinnamon and cardamom are often used. The taste is often associated with honey, liquorice and vanilla.

Recommendation:

We recommend the Tanqueray Old Tom Gin.

3. Floral

If your gin has a floral note, it should smell very fresh, calming and perfumed. They are also characterized by the fact that they taste very light and well-rounded. Chamomile flowers, lavender or elderberry are usually used as botanicals.

Recommendation:

We recommend the Monkey 47 Black Forest Dry Gin.

4. Spicy and piquant

Those of you who don't have a sweet tooth should opt for the spicier and piquant whiskeys. To achieve this flavor, many distillers use coriander and cubeb pepper. The gin is then often characterized with black pepper, cardamom and nutmeg.

Recommendation:

We recommend the Whitley Neill Gin.

5. Fruity-sour

A popular botanical is lemon or lime peel. This gives the gin a juicy citrus aroma. Perceived associations would be lemon, lime, grapefruit and pomelo, for example.

Recommendation:

We recommend the Gin Sul.
