    1. The Whiskey Tumbler
    – A glass for bourbon drinkers –

    The advantages:

You should use a tumbler glass for:

    • American Bourbons
    • Blended Whisky
    • Rye Whiskey
    • Whiskey on the Rocks
    • Cocktails
    • Long drinks

    2. The nosing glass
    – Enjoyment for Scotch connoisseurs –

    The advantages:

You've probably heard that whisky connoisseurs don't just talk about tasting, but also about nosing. In this case, they don't use a tumbler, but rather a so-called nosing glass.

The nosing glass is similar to a sherry glass. The bulbous shape ensures that the aromas spread well, but cannot escape immediately due to the narrow opening. This allows experienced noses to quickly "sniff out" and name the individual aromas in the whisky. These glasses also have a curved rim so that the contents can flow broadly and evenly into the mouth. Since color plays a major role alongside the smell, nosing glasses are also best made of crystal glass.

If you compare the nosing glass with a tumbler, you will quickly see that it has a much thinner glass. This makes it easier for connoisseurs to warm the whisky slightly with their hands. Single malts should always be drunk at room temperature and without ice.

You should use a nosing glass for:

    • Single Malts
    • Particularly fine whiskies

Nosing glasses are also available with lids:

Some types of whiskey have particularly fine aromas that are unfortunately very volatile. This means that these aromas evaporate very quickly and are then no longer recognizable. The lid gives you an advantage: you lock the aromas in the glass, so you can wait in peace until all the details have spread out in the glass and then enjoy the full aroma after you have opened the lid.

In addition, you can see the "whisky window" with a lid. Give your whisky a jolt with the lid closed and it will spread across the glass. Younger malts flow faster and brighter, while the older whiskeys leave a slightly oily film. Don't shake your whisky too much, however, otherwise the alcohol will dissolve and float in the glass along with the aromas.

This is how you drink your whisky properly at home!
