    The preparation

One of the most important questions in advance: Who should attend your wine tasting? A large group of friends or are you organizing a wine tasting for two in your home? Then it could turn into a successful date. If it is a wine tasting with friends, you should make sure that the group is not too large. Four to six participants is a good number so that you can test and talk shop together.

Perhaps you would spontaneously schedule the wine tasting at home for the evening - but connoisseurs recommend testing wines in daylight . This is the best way to judge the color. If your wine tasting is not taking place in the depths of winter, you can schedule the invitation for the early evening (or have the tasting take place during the day).

    Speaking of color:

Professionals recommend using a white tablecloth . Not only does it look chic, it also ensures that the colors of the wine are shown to their best advantage during the tasting. It is best to choose a tablecloth that you can wash with hot water later.

    What you need:

For a wine tasting with friends, prepare paper and pen for each person so that everyone can make notes about their favorite wine. If you are planning a wine tasting for two, you can also record the results together. You should also make sure you have enough glasses : one glass for each wine, plus a water cup and - if necessary - a spittoon per person. In a classic wine tasting, you don't drink the entire wine, you just taste it. But of course you are free to drink the wine.

There should be plenty of water and bread available , as both can neutralize the taste between wines. Perhaps you could also plan on having snacks? It's best to discuss this with your guests - everyone can contribute something if necessary.

    Recommendation:

Antipasti or cheese traditionally go well with wine. If you want to stick with bread, get some ciabatta or baguette to snack on between meals.

The right wines for private tasting

You have free rein when choosing the wines - that is one of the advantages of wine tasting at home. It is best to make sure that you choose different types of wine so that you can taste the differences. Four to five different wines is a good size to start with.

There is less flexibility in terms of temperature and order: Make sure in advance that the white wine is chilled and has a drinking temperature of 10 to 11 degrees. Red wines are drunk at around 16 to 18 degrees. If you want to be on the safe side, you can get a special wine thermometer.

When choosing the order, make sure to start with a light wine and only add the heavy red wine at the end. Otherwise, the red wine will overwhelm your palate - and this taste can hardly be neutralized even with bread and water.

    Recommendation:

You can also have the wine selected by professionals and sent to your home. Just take a look at our online wine tasting category. There you will also find boxes for home delivery - with and without an additional online conference.

Then we can get started, right?

If you have taken everything into account when preparing, there is hardly anything that can go wrong. Whether it is a wine tasting with friends or a tasting for two: take your time to really try the wines and let them have an effect on you. After all, wine tasting at home is also about having a nice evening and you can decide the timing yourself.

Of course, you can and should talk shop. You really don't have to be a professional to do this: it's enough if you just pay attention to how the wine feels in your mouth, how it smells, what color it is - and how much you personally like it. If you then discover your favorite wine, you can pour another glass.

    Recommendation:

To better describe the taste of the wine, an aroma wheel is best! Available here on Amazon !
